Can You Trust Your Builder?
This is an important issue for you, whether you are building a project for $500.00 or $5,000,000.00. Your Builder will be spending your money, and I want you to remember this….they will be spending Your Money! When the Builder contracts work to sub contractors you are the one being obligated to pay the builder, the sub contractors and the material providers. If you do not pay the money to the builder according to the terms of the contract you have signed, you will be entangeled in liens, lawsuits and lawyers.
What practical steps can you take to prevent this nightmare from becoming a reality?
When you have gathered all the information about the contractors, it is time to make a decision as to which contractor you trust with your money. If the answer is none, then you must start your search over using the same guidelines as I have mentioned before.
So, can you trust your builder", is not a simple question with a simple answer. All will be friendly to you as you represent income to them. However you must make your decision based upon your knowledge obtained, in part, in the ways I have mentioned. I would like to leave you with a few words of advice. I have been in the construction business for over thirty five years. All of these people are very serious players and their livelihood depends upon getting construction projects from people like you and me. That does not mean that you will be ripped off; only that, before you sign the contract is when you hold the most power. Builders will be very nice to you at that time and hopefully, continue to be, after you have contracted the work with one.
Use your power wisely to get the work you want done, at a good price with the right builder before signing any contracts. Time is on your side before you put your name on the dotted line…Do not let anyone rush or hurry you into making up your mind. After all, at this time you are totally in charge!
